Deputy Chief of Staff

San Francisco, California, United States Full-time

PL+US has one crystal clear mission: Winning high-quality paid family leave for everyone in the U.S. We want it done by 2022. To get there, we’re building an incredible team of campaigners and advocates, to run and win local and national campaigns that build towards the big goal -- a high-quality national policy.

We are hiring a Deputy Chief of Staff to play a central and highly strategic role in our organization. In just three short years, PL+US has won family leave for nearly 6 million people and tripled in size. The Deputy Chief of Staff will help ensure we effectively prioritize and activate the myriad opportunities that come before us.

The Deputy Chief of Staff will engage with a wide variety of projects in every aspect of the organization’s work, internally and externally. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will amplify and enable the organization’s leadership. You will manage an ever-evolving portfolio that spans a wide range: from building relationships with influencers, to developing internal systems and processes, to managing the ED's time, to cultivating funders and board members.

The ideal candidate for this role is a superb and detail-oriented project manager with high-level communications skill; a sophisticated understanding of team management and leadership; and experience cultivating relationships across culture, politics, philanthropy, and business.

Top 5 Reasons to Work at PL+US

1. You Care.  Giving all Americans the chance to take care of their families means something to you. Maybe you have kids, or aging parents, and know the struggle firsthand. Maybe you can envision the healthier, fairer world that paid family leave can bring. Whatever your reason, our mission speaks to you, and you’re yearning for a workplace filled with people, like you, who actually care.

2. We Care.  PL+US takes care of its staff. Not just with good pay and benefits, but with the understanding that you have a life -- maybe a complicated one -- and that you need to balance that life with your work. Caring for family and self is core to our mission. We don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk.

3. You Want a Win.  This is an opportunity to be part of a big, bold victory at a national scale. It’ll be hard work, but it’ll feel great to notch a huge win on your belt -- and it’ll look great to whoever wants to hire you next.

4. You Want to Learn.  From our senior leadership on down, we’re constantly improving our craft and getting better at what we do. Professional development never stops. We want our staff to walk out of PL+US ten times more effective than when they walked in.

5. You Want a Team.  Not just a group of people who work together. You want a team -- co-workers who’ll have your back, who support each other, and who put the mission before their own egos. That’s PL+US. If that’s the kind of team you want, we want you back.
