Senior Communications Manager

We’re looking for a strategic, tenacious, creative, inspired, detail-oriented, communications superstar to tell the story of PL+US and our programs to our key audiences. The right person for this role is an obsessive and varied media consumer, a phenomenal communicator, excellent writer, and a deeply creative strategist who also loves getting their hands dirty.

Responsibilities:

Brand development and core communications:

  • Help us continue to refine and crystalize the PL+US brand, and oversee development of new brand materials
  • Develop earned media strategies for our core campaigns and program areas
  • Develop a thought leadership program to secure critical speaking engagements and other opportunities for PL+US leaders

Earned media:

  • Write and edit excellent materials for press : opeds, press releases, talking points, issue statements
  • Position PL+US as an expert on family policy by regularly writing and publishing opeds and booking spokespeople as expert commentators
  • Cultivate excellent relationships with reporters, editors, and producers
  • Plan and manage media-facing events

Social media:

  • Grow the PL+US brand and reach on Facebook and Twitter
  • Craft and curate excellent, compelling content for Facebook and Twitter

Systems and Tracking:

  • Use Cision to build media lists, manage distributions, and provide regular reporting
  • Provide regular reports on social media growth and engagement

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in communications and public relations. Marketing experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated success building relationships with journalists and running winning communications campaigns
  • Excellent writing, communication, and strong research skills
  • Superb project management and organizational skills
  • Self-starter, strong work ethic, results-oriented and deadline driven
  • Skilled in Google Apps, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

Terms: This position has a $75,000 to $85,000 salary, with negotiable hours (less-than-full-time) and location. Our generous benefits include unlimited vacation and sick time and up to 6 months of parental leave.
